A Triple Axel Ace
One week until the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi, Russia. That means I have one week to figure out some kind of tv connection so I can watch and watch and watch them. One week.

Cave In, Catch Fire, Or Swim Away
So I'm thinking about getting my hair dyed. Just some red highlights to switch things up a little bit. Something like this.
No, just kidding! This is what my Mom envisioned when I was talking to her about it. Not. At. All. I'm thinking more like these. Enough to be noticeable, but very natural and fun.
What do you think?

If I Had One Wish, It'd Be to Have More Wishes, Duh
I really wish I had the body type to pull off tea-length skirts. They have a remarkably high number of seasonal, formal, and casual applications. Like this bright yellow polka dot one is perfect for a summer barbeque party.
And this heavier solid color one is a shoe-in at the office.
And in plaid it is perfect for a fall day of running errands and hanging out at a local coffeeshop.

The Plight of the Cave People
Here's this week's apartment decorating update (it seems like I change something almost every week doesn't it?). Because my room is pretty lacking in the window department, as in, there aren't any, I've had to come up with some creative lighting solutions. This is a time when a project that I called Light Blocks that I invented in a product design class in college would come in handy. Modular, natural-looking light blocks that looked like window panes: if only they really existed! Anyway, I finally took the Christmas tree lights down in our living room and relocated them to my ceiling, like this.
It's much better than that silly hula hoop concoction that I had going on before, and lights the majority of the room much better. Double win.

The Star Always Wears the Nicest Shirt
So there are pretty much three things you can assume about all sorority girls. 1. The particular chapter that they are a member of is the best sorority of all of them. I say this, but really, Zeta is the best. 2. They love and understand Ke$ha songs on a very deep level. They're just so fun to dance to! 3. They put as much thought and effort into costume parties as they would into deciding their life's purpose.
Being a former sorority girl myself, I admit to all of these things. I went to my first costume party since college this past weekend, and man, my sorority-girl outlook on these affairs has not changed. I went to the goldmine of costume ideas, Goodwill, and went through the entire women's side of the store. The two possibilities I found, a fringe-y shirt for an Indian and a navy blue and red military jacket for a Sailor, were both a bit disappointing. Then, on a whim, and amid the judgmental 'Oh that poor girl, she's too young to be a mom,' looks from my fellow Goodwillers, I wandered over to the pre-teen boys section and found a plethora of superhero themed (and most-likely pajama) shirts. They had Ninja Turtles, Superman, Spongebob, Thomas the Tank Engine, and many more. There was this really great Buzz Lightyear shirt that had neon green mesh wings when you raised your arms but it was just a bit too small. I settled on the classically cool Spiderman, found a red skirt to go with it, and made a web-adorned mask to complete the look.
Then off my Pippi Longstocking-adorned roommate and I went to this Halloween in January Nashville Cast and Crew party. It was a blast, and there happened to be a photobooth company called The Photoboot parked right outside to capture all the action.

Intellectual Plant Discussions
Remember the post about the skull drawing a few weeks ago? Well, here it is, after it's makeover. It was an evening of testing chalk pastel colors with one another, finding a few types of flowers in differing colors, learning how to draw said flowers, all while tying it into the current style of the piece to make it all look coherent. I think it really brings the whole thing together, and adds a little more interest, and on top of that, it looks great above the tv.

The Sight of Your Own Breath
I pulled out the old 80's cut sweatshirt today for a new look. And even though it was really freezing cold,
and I had to wait for breaks from the wind so my hair wasn't all over the place,
it was a lot of fun. The outfit turned out pretty good too, with the slouchy top and skinny jeans. The matching socks and scarf added nice pops of color too, even though I'm usually against that much matchy-ness. I feel like I should be walking down city streets with hot coffee in hand on the way to a late lunch with a friend.

I'm Your Huckleberry
Andrew and I had our (almost) weekly Dinner and Movie night a few days ago. I whipped up some spaghetti and while enjoying the red sauce pasta, we commenced to choosing a feature. We had an extra DVD player in the garage stock back in St. Louis, so we now have a wider selection than movies that came out on VHS. We settled on Tombstone, the star-laden western epic tale of Wyatt Earp's legend-making turn in the boomtown of Tombstone. Stars Kurt Russell as the legend himself, with Sam Elliot as his big brother (the only one who wasn't really acting because he probably just lives this kind of life), and Val Kilmer as the show-stealing Doc Holliday.
A few parts were a little over-dramatized ("And Hell's coming with me!"), and the whole thing was pretty Hollywood-ized (although the director has been quoted that all lightning and all mustaches were real), but overall it was entertaining and it's worth watching for Val Kilmer's character alone.
Just a little fun fact: this guy (from Tombstone)
and this guy (from Avatar)
are the same actor. Shocking, I know.

Good Vibes Only
I finally found some new little brown school boots! Mine were so worn they had holes in the bottom. Needless to say, those days where an unforeseeable rain storm creeps in were rather unenjoyable. Feast your eyes on the new version of my staple footwear, with yesterday's view...
and today's!

Where Fascinations Lie
I'm wanting to switch up my walls again in my room. The pictures are nice, but they're getting kindof boring. I started brainstorming what the new theme should be when I thought, something a little more 3d would be interesting. Like these.
But then I realized, I don't have a collection to display! I used to collect these cool wood boxes: I would get a new one each year we went to Destin. I went through all of the childhood collection phases such as Beanie Babies and other stuffed animals, legos/playmobil/action figures, and baseball cards. None of which I would want to display now, however. I think that's the main thing of it, what makes people want to collect something? My Mom collects glass jars, my old roommate collected scarves, and my current roommate collects plants. I've never really liked one certain thing so much that I look for it in different variations. I guess I'll have to keep an eye out for something cool to start collecting at the next flea market.

The Best Journeys Answer Questions That You Didn't Even Think to Ask
Alright, this will be the last year-end compilation post. This time it has to do with fashion. A lot of personal style blogs that I follow post a photo from every outfit they posted throughout the year; summing the year up in style, if you will. I thought I would follow suit, but not go quite that far. I tried some fun things this year, and I think my self-portrait skill is growing. First up, experimentation. I dabbled in the realm of jewelry.
I conquered a claustrophobic fear of wearing a big scarf, and tried out the summer's hottest trend of crop tops.
I got to create an entirely new genre of my closet in the form of work clothes.
I had a few western-inspired looks.
And a beachy one.
I played with light.
And color.
And I was very satisfied with my do-it-yourself projects.
I'm excited to see what I will get into this year, what trends I will like enough to try, and what camera-related things I will experiment with. Here's to 2014!
