Blotting Out the Sun

Other than footwear, sunglasses are the only accessory that perform a functional service.  Jewelry, nail polish, and makeup are all nice when they're there, but jewelry doesn't keep us warm in cold weather, nail polish doesn't protect us from the elements, and other than giving an extra boost of self confidence, makeup doesn't have any real health benefits.  Sunglasses, however, protect our eyes and save our precious visions from being harmed by only the most omnipresent, skin-burning, retina-melting, vital ingredient of our universe: the sun.  They also look pretty cool.

Cowboys and Indians

Two very classic accessories to two very classic characters of western lore: the holster to the cowboy and the headdress of feathers to the indian.  With a modern take.

If You Can't Stop the Waves, Go Sailing

In the future, we will have to wear utility belts and cool arm band compartments for holding all the newest James Bond-like gadgets.

We will also have to wear sunglasses all the time to block the harmful UV rays that will be streaming through the broken ozone layer.

We'll probably all wear stylized armor as well, to protect against those newest James Bond-like gadgets and the hoards of genetically modified super animals that will be running around.

Other than the nature of the future, it sounds and looks pretty cool to me.

Get Your Neon On

ne·on/ˈnēän/

1.  A rarely found on Earth, colorless, odorless, inert noble gas element that produces a redish-orange glow, symbol Ne, atomic number 10.  Extracted from the air for commercial usage in neon advertising signs.

2.  Late 19th century Greek origin, meaning "something new."

3.  A very bright or fluorescent color.

Hang For 10

Today is World Water Day.  And what better way to celebrate than by looking at, appreciating, and getting lost in the wonder and awe that makes up most of our world's water: the ocean.

People Are Islands Unto Themselves

And now, to combat yesterday's sugary sweet, oh so nice post on preppy-ness, here are some examples of the tough as nails set.  The anti-prep.  The black leather wearing, animal print sporting, and strategic cutouts supporter.  The ultimate badass.

White Clouds on Blue Skies

Spring florals and pastels and picnic blanket checks really lend themselves to the preppy look.  Here's some ideas that do the whole preppy thing, but not so much that you'll start coughing up sperry's and popped collars and pearls.

The Hardest Button to Button

I just finished watching the Jack White, Jimmy Page, and The Edge documentary, It Might Get Loud.  For one thing, if you haven't seen it, stop whatever it is you're doing right now and go watch it.  For a second thing, this film confirmed Jack White's status as not just one of the coolest guys around, but one of the coolest guys around who also happens to have an incredibly unique style, especially in his White Stripes days with the always interesting Meg White.  One of my more lofty life goals is to hang out with Jack White someday; I imagine he's got some pretty good stories and an intriguing outlook on life.

Pineapple Way

My latest clothing project consisted of an old tote bag I got in Florida and an as-simple-as-they-come black t-shirt.  The colorblocked pineapple print is so awesome I just knew it would come to use further than just on the bag.  Voila, the shirt idea was born.  Operation on the bag commenced and the cleanest, least faded part was cut, placed on the shirt, then stitched on.  Pretty nifty, if I do say so myself.

Time Savoring

Even though we lost an hour of sleep on Sunday, Daylight Savings is perfectly alright with me.  I can live with one less hour if it means that it will stay light out longer each night.  Daylight Savings: the first true sign of spring.  This calls for some stylized florals (stylized so as not to look like you wrapped yourself in dining room curtains).

Cowboying It Up

"You see, in this world there's two kinds of people, my friend: those with loaded guns and those who dig.  You dig."  -The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly (awesome movie with an even more awesome theme song)

Eclipse Eyes

Was flipping through the most recent Swell catalogue and saw this completely awe-inspiring page.  Looks kindof like a shattered mirror.

"Be True To Your Teeth

Or They'll Be False to You."  Grandpa, you were awesome, and you're the star of one of my favorite photographs of all time.

Miscreant of Color

Wouldn't it be cool if people dressed to match their surroundings?  Like, if I were going to class I would wear blue and tan to match the chair and desk.  Or, if I were going to watch tv in my apartment I would wear some kind of nasty brown and green patterned outfit to match the couch.  Or, sometimes it just happens that what you wear matches what is around you, like this white and blue blend in Greece.
