Seeps Into Walls

Lacey Lazy Summer Days...that are so hot a few miniscule beads of sweat formulated on my brow during the ten minutes I was taking these pictures.  Ew.

Word of the Week: Ravelment

Welcome to the first weekly feature of Kindofmaybe:  The Word of the Week, the stars of which will, naturally, be words.  I will flip open the dictionary at random and select a word of interest from that  particular page, and select a photo from my inspiration file that is fitting.  And now, without further ado, let us begin this journey of vocables.

rav·el·ment
noun
Confusion or complexity; a tangle.

As in, the universe is a ravelment of stars, planets, suns, moons, aliens, and a whole scope of things we haven't discovered yet or could possibly understand.

Traces of Misadventure

Day Two of the 100+ degree heat.  The government should provide free pool-cool-down access to everyone as part of a social well being program.  If I ever run for President, this will be a highlight of my platform.  Of course, people can't just run around town in their swimsuits to get to said pool-cool-down; coverups will be required.

The Air of Elsewhere

Cutouts are amazingly versatile.  They can be effective almost anywhere on any type of clothing.  Top, middle, sides, back, front, down the leg of a pair of pants, etc.

Boatloads of Blue

This winter when it was cold and the outdoors was filled with dreary misery, I wrote several posts about the many delights of summer.  I suppose it is only fair to return the favor to winter now that it's summer.  As much as I despise the arctic months, the beginning of autumn, when the first faint signs the cold is coming begins to show, is rather enjoyable.  Those days when you hear the rustling of fallen leaves under your feet, a slight chill blows on the wind, and you can lose the morning-needed jacket by lunchtime.

Good Day Sunshine

I need to laugh, and when the sun is out, I've got something I can laugh about.  -The Beatles

When wearing something this happy and summery, you wouldn't need the sun; laughter and love would radiate from you instead.

It's All in the Details

Roberto Cavalli's all black and all white looks just shot to the top of the metaphorical stack of beautiful all-one-color ensembles.  Be sure to look closely to find all the little gems hidden in these outfits, like the lace along the side of the black jacket or the double parrot necklace.

Twisted Summer Heart

T-shirts are a delightfully fantastic way to tone down a dressier dress, and make the time spent indoors with a possible arctic ice factory level of air conditioning a bit more pleasant.

Shaken, Not Stirred

After many days over the past year of wanting, trying, and experiencing a true trial and error situation if I ever saw one, I finally figured out how to wear my Grandpa's tuxedo shirt without looking like a waiter.  The button studs are my favorite part (I had to leave out the cufflinks to roll the sleeves).

You Rebel Scum

Pretty much anything can be turned into an adornment of some kind.  Like these two lovely ladies: the first used a classic bandana as a headband tied ninja style (or hippie for you more gentle folk), and the second used what looks like a piece of scrap fabric.

And for my go-round I chose to go with a necktie.  Kindof ended up having a flapper turned pirate vibe.

Not All Who Wander Are Lost

My latest foray of art+fashion began with an old off-white tank dress, a bottle of black fabric paint, a few thin paintbrushes, and a couple detailed maps.

I had the vague idea in mind of starting on the front lower left with a map of Middle Earth, the land featured in The Lord of the Rings, and having it trail upwards over the pocket and transition into a map of Hyrule on the upper back, which is the home of the creatures in the videogame Zelda: Ocarina of Time.  A project I had been wanting to complete for a long time, I now have a perfectly acceptable nerd dress that looks great with a pair of gladiators and a black belt.

Playing For Splendor

1.  Take one shirt, cut one straight line down the back.
2.  Cut a line on either side of the first cut to make two pieces for the top bow.

3.  Cut an oblong triangle along the bottom edge, making the two pieces for the bottom bow, which will allow for the fitted bottom.

4.  Wear the shirt, outdoors and in.
