It Grows As It Goes

*The state motto of New Mexico

A week from today my mom, my two grandmas, and I will be hopping on a plane to go to Santa Fe, New Mexico!  Mom and her side of the family have a long tradition of vacationing there at least once a year, and my other grandma and I had never been so we were invited to go along!  I can't wait to see some adobe buildings, eat some Mexican food, and enjoy all the pretty southwest colors.

If You're Not Careful, You'll Turn Out Ordinary

After an early shift today at work, Mom and I went to get our annual summer pedicures!  The color I picked out turned out to be a little more red than it looked like in the bottle, but I like it!

Catch a Wave and You're Sitting On Top of the World

Happy late Memorial Day!  I hope your day was filled with sun and barbecue, and no work!  Luckily, I didn't have to work either, so Mom and I ventured to the mall to catch a few sales.  I loaded up on summery blue items at H&M, which is my favorite place to shop now.  I found a shirt with little sharks on it, and shorts with little palm trees, and a sundress with little flowers!  Yay little prints!

I was so excited about the little sharks that I threw it on with my trusty jean shorts for our barbecue party, which consisted of burgers and fries.  My Longboarder beer even matches!

Baby, Why Don't We Go Down to Kokomo

Yesterday I tried a smoothie from Kaldi's and I have to say, it was quite good.  It was very peach flavored and I didn't watch them make it, but it tasted like it was an actual peach blended up in it.  The bright orangey color looked great with my pink and blue outfit combo too!

Whose Real Name No One Knew

A couple weeks ago Dad brought this really cool Asian pot-like thing home from work.  Ever since, we've been trying to figure out what it is.  Our research led to something called a Garden Stool, which was a little anticlimactic.  Yesterday we cleaned it up and today it will go up in the loft.  I haven't quite figured out where it will go, and if I'll put something on top of it or not, but it'll be beautiful up there against the grey carpet.

Of the Central Stories of the Mythology

Let's continue the food post theme with the saga of the shish kabobs.  It all began with the colorful supplies casually strewn across the counter.

All of the colors!  Next was the preparation stage.  I lined the pans while Dad skewered all the chopped up pieces.  It was at this time that we opened the Hazelnut Brown beer and enjoyed some fresh guacamole.

And then barbecue time began.

After everything was grilled to perfection, it was transferred back into the kitchen and onto platters.  Zucchini logs, peppers, and tomatoes on one, and shrimp, ham, chicken, and pineapple on the other.

There is only one way to describe this meal, and that way is mmmmmmmm.

Coffee With the Caped Crusader

Today was superhero day at work, which means that we got to wear jeans and dress like a superhero.  Not that exciting, but jean days are always better than uniform days.  I dug out my old Batman shirt to wear to the party, and surprisingly, everyone else wore Batman garb too!  And superheroes we were, breaking the record of customers served in a half hour; 72 with just six people working!

Their Eyes Beholding Many Colors

I had a lovely start to year 25, filled with family, friends, and good food.  What more do you need?  I went to Kaldi's the morning of, then ventured down to the Art Museum for the afternoon.  The park was all aflutter with runners, walkers, and bikers taking advantage of the good spring weather, and the sound of thespians practicing their lines for the upcoming Shakespeare Festival was wafting through the air.

I stopped by a few of my favorites, including Monet's Waterlilies and Gerhard Richter's November, December, and January.  I also found a new one called Mondrian Dancing by Susan Rothenberg which was quite entrancing.

That night Mom, Dad, and I had my new favorite beer and guacamole, before heading down to Dewey's for some delicious dairy-free pizza!  Yummmm!

The next night, Andrew came home for the weekend and Taylor came home for the summer.  Just in time for some dairy-free ice cream cake!

The next morning we all got coffee at, where else, Kaldi's!  It was a lovely time of catching up over coffee and pastries, then I ran home to shower and pack a few things before heading down to Springfield.  My friend Shelby met me at the mall for a little afternoon shopping and then we went downtown for a cocktail.  On the way, we ran in to an old fraternity buddy who said he was going to this brewery beer festival thing a few blocks away.  We joined him and saw several old Drury people, a few of which I hadn't seen since graduating!  Later that night, I met up with Hannah and Sydney, along with a few other Zetas who had graduated earlier in the day, and decided to be fancy by going to this place called Red Room.  It is down this cool spiral staircase, in the basement of a steakhouse/bar.  You don't need a password or anything to go down, but it has that exciting, exclusive feel.  Martinis were had all around.

After that we traveled over to a bar called Finnegans, where every Drury alum ever was hanging out. Not quite every alum, but it is traditionally the place to be the night of graduation.  I ran into more people I haven't seen in forever, and had quite the time catching up with all of them.  And upon my return home the next day, after a nap, of course, Dad made grilled pears for dessert!  What a splendid little extended birthday weekend!

They Say It's Your Birthday

Well, I'm now a quarter of a century old!  Twenty-five.  Strange to think about it in that perspective.  It's going to be a good year though, I can feel it!  Already received some lovely birthday salutations and letters, and I got a little more made-up than usual, just for fun.  Let the birthday festivities begin!

Seeing a Mono-Ecosystem World

And, now that I'm done with school for a few weeks, I can post a little more often!  Starting with this little personal style look from a few days ago.  It was a bit windy, but it proved the perfect opportunity to show off my scarf.

Ride By On Air

I had my last final tonight, and the grade is already posted.  I'm proud to say that I got all A's!  And now that this crazy semester is finally over, I found the perfect way to express my current feeling of relief.

Anxious For Solitude

I am finally finished with one of my classes!  On Wednesday, my first class ended over an hour early, so I had that much time to kill before my next class started.  I thought about hanging out in the hallway, or driving somewhere, but I settled on exploring the Lindenwood campus, which was quite pretty in the pre-sunset glow.  And after my around-the-school jaunt, I walked into class, turned the last few assignments in, and was on my way.  One down, three to go!
