Facing the Fire

In light of tonight's Grand Jury decision, I've collected a few inspiring quotes to share with you.  Words of wisdom from the wisest older gents of all tales: Gandalf from The Lord of the Rings, Albus Dumbledore from Harry Potter, and of course, Obi-Wan Kenobi from Star Wars.

"Courage will now be your best defense against the storm that is at hand."
-Gandalf the Grey

"Dark times lie ahead of us, and there will be a time when we must choose between what is easy and what is right."
-Albus Dumbledore

"The force will be with you, always."
-Obi-Wan Kenobi

They Talk About Toys

I've recently acquired a few updates to some very essential items.  First, a few weeks ago I ordered a new phone case.  My old one was decidedly too worn and dirty to continue service, so I found this blue and white one online and last week it finally showed up in our mailbox!

And secondly, I have expanded my moccasin collection!  The original, chocolate brown Ugg moccs were a Christmas present about seven or eight years ago, and they have held up magnificently, but, as you can see in the picture below, they do not cover the full top of the foot.  Quite hazardous in this below freezing weather we are experiencing.  The new tan ones aren't as high quality (Target brand) but are super cozy and delightful.

For the Sake of Living With Risks

I stopped by the park the other day on the way home for a few quick personal style pics.  I got out of the car and it started snowing, but since I was already there I figured a few minutes in the cold couldn't hurt, and I had on these great patterned tights that needed to be documented.  So, here I am sacrificing warmth and comfort for the sake of fashion.  Worth it?  Well, I'm still alive now so I guess I would say so.

Thumpety Thump Thump, Look at Frosty Go

It's getting closer and closer to the actual start of winter, and its starting to feel more and more like it's already here.  For one, retailers waste no time holiday-ifying everything as soon as Halloween is over.  At Starbucks, everything is red, including our new aprons, there is an abundance of gift items for sale, and all the holiday drinks are out.  Side note, I'm trying to test all of them (Chestnut Praline, Eggnog, Gingerbread, and Caramel Brulee, all lattes) and am planning on doing a review post, so look out for that!  For two, it's really freezing cold outside.  It snowed yesterday!  Wayyyy too early for that, in my opinion.  And third, the subjects of my favorite personal style blogs, Classy Girls Wear Pearls, went to a Christmas tree farm in a recent post.  If there's anything these New Englanders know how to do, it's layering up for winter.

Under the Copper Leaves

Fitting right in with the fall vibe today, full of layers and textures and rich colors.  It is finally the time of year when I can wear a knit hat, but also warm enough that I can wear a button-up and sweater and call it good.  The belt I found up in the loft, probably an old one of Dad's or one of my brothers.  It happens to fit me quite well and has those great little silver medallions circling it, with a matching buckle and triangle end piece.

Play Well

I found these really cool, Lego masterpieces on Pinterest a few minutes ago, including Grant Wood's American Gothic, Rene Magritte's The Son of Man, and one of Van Gogh's self portraits, among a few others.  They look like surreal pointillism versions of the originals.

And Then There Was Coffee

It's already November!  And to start off the new month, all things winter came into effect at Starbucks:  Gingerbread Lattes, the famed red cups, Christmas merch, the Thanksgiving Blend (which I got to do the sign for!), etc.  Start putting in your holiday coffee bean orders now!
