L'appel du Vide

There's nothing quite like waking up to a snow-covered wintery wonderland.  The magical whimsy of white powder covering everything, the soft muffled sound of nothing, and the slowness it brings the world always makes me smile.  And having never been a morning person, that is quite a feat.

If You'll Please Turn Your Attention to the South Gallery Wall

A new piece of artwork was added to the displayed collection this last week: a stylized rendition of the front door to the old homestead.  Taylor made it, printed and framed it, and then gave it to me for Christmas and I have to say, he knows my preferred artwork style well, because it fits absolutely perfectly with everything else we have hanging.

Ollie approves of it as well.

Your Focus Determines Your Reality

Introducing a brand new series, here it is, straight to your computer screen: Photos From Years Past!  Each month I will be posting a collection of photos from that same month a year ago.  Even though I stopped blogging, I never stopped documenting the weird, wonderful, and interesting things.

Let's start with a lovely, vintage-looking snow scene.

Followed by a peek into a commercial-size espresso machine.

And the obligatory cool-sky shots.

We had recently had a professional show us the proper way to hang artwork so we finished putting up our first gallery wall.  Ethan picked out the Sweden skyline and sepia street-view, while I contributed the Lord of the Rings Wraith piece.

And to finish out the month, a candid of Ethan during a cookie-baking day.  As you can see, every surface in our tiny little kitchen was covered in cookies.  Not a bad thing at all, I say.

To Be of the Resolute

Well, we're a week in to 2023, everyone still upholding their resolutions?  One of mine includes posting once a week on the dear old blog, looks like I made it just in time for this first week!

It's been unseasonably warm this last week, with the temperatures finally feeling more like winter the last couple days.  There were even some little snow flurries this morning!  I hope we have another good snow storm before the season is through.  One where the wind chills are not at -30 so little Ollie can actually play in it.

We spent the last few days at Ethan's parents' farm celebrating Christmas with both sides of his family.  It was a very social couple days while nestled in the peaceful, serene country landscape.  We saw many cows, horses, families of deers and ducks, and even an alpaca!

They have a neighbor horse that stands half in and half out his pen all day, sometimes venturing out for a drink of water or a little nap in the leaves.  We named him Grandpa George the Horse.
