As If She Were the Sun

Happy late Mother's Day to all my Mom readers!  I hope you had a lovely day filled with family, good food, and appreciation.  I had a relaxing day at home cleaning and vacuuming, baking some Mother's Day brownies and arranging a Mother's Day bouquet.  It was a regular fifties housewife kind of day.

Later on I headed over to the house for dinner with the Grandmas.  Taylor barbecued a mean salmon and Dad whipped up a lovely orrrrrrzo dish inside.  Hope you all had a delightful Mother's Day as well!

Queen of the Met

Last Monday was one of the year's biggest fashion events, The Met Gala.  This event is a little different than most celebrity red carpet affairs, though, in that rather than everyone just wearing pretty designer gowns, everyone wears pretty designer gowns according to a theme.  This year, the theme was Heavenly Bodies: Fashion and the Catholic Imagination, and I quite enjoyed the interpretations.  After Rihanna owned everyone for not dressing enough to the theme last year, the celebs went all out for this one.  Rather than being mainly about Catholicism as a religion, I think most based their look in reference to the Catholic role in history and art.

While they definitely follow that look, did anyone else get a really strong Queen Amidala from the Star Wars prequels vibe?

I'm Going to Make Everything Around Me Beautiful, That Will Be My Life

Yes, the balcony is up and running now that it's warm and summery out.  A couple weeks ago I swept all the leftover winter leaves and dirt off the floor and wiped down the patio furniture.  I found a stick to run through all the little openings to make sure there were no spiderwebs, and sprayed down the outside of the glass door.  Finally it was all fresh and clean and ready for some flowers.

I headed over to Home Depot to peruse the garden section and find a plant or two.

They had quite a selection but I stuck to the bright and partial sun sections, as my balcony gets several hours of morning light every day.  Two sun combos and a snapdragon later, I was on my way home to set it all up.  Don't they look great?!

Marching On the Edge of Stories Brought From Far Away

Hello hello and happy Friday!  Today is the first of a four-day mini vacation I decided to take from work.  Partially because it's my birthday on Monday, partially because I have a lot to do before the big wedding in a couple weeks, and partially because I just wanted a few days off.

I started off the long weekend last night with a cocktail on the balcony and I have to say, a vodka pellegrino mixed with a slight breeze and rustling flowers makes for a lovely evening.  Other fun things I plan on doing include going to the Art Museum, the Botanical Garden, the traditional Saturday morning Kaldi's run, and right now I'm off for a birthday margarita with work friends.  Any other suggestions?
