Saint George and the Dragon

The next day we walked down to the Casa Batlló, a house that was remodeled by the famous Antoni Gaudi.  The weather was absolutely gorgeous outside: partly cloudy and in the mid sixties.  We saw some delightful Barcelona character along the walk there.

The fountain and giant owl intersection was like our home base; if we could get there, we could find the door to our apartment building.  You can definitely see a more beachy, Mediterranean flair in a lot of the buildings here.

Inside this next building is a market/grocery store.  We came back on the way home to get the makings for sandwiches and a bottle of wine.

And then, we saw it.  Kindof hard to miss, don't you think?

The story is that the curved roof is the spine of a dragon, with colorful "scale" tiles, and the turret is Saint George's lance, which he thrust into the dragon's back, killing him and saving Catalonia, which was Gaudi's homeland.
