The paisley pattern has been around since the early 200s AD, in Persia and other Middle Eastern/Indian nations, and has spread worldwide since. The unique twisted teardrop pattern bears resemblance to the cypress tree, and like the tree itself, it became a symbol of life and eternity. The western name paisley came from the town of Paisley in Scotland, which is a large center for producing textiles in the design. Although it has been around for many an age, I would like to see more of the bohemian, stylized floral pattern today.
